Kanha National ParkConsidered as one of the finest and well managed of all national parks in India, Kanha National park is situated in between Banjar and Halon valleys in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The drive through the jungles and horse shoe shaped valley with beautiful landscapes is just fascinating and you come across many wildlife animals in Kanha National Park.

Presenting a varied topography, Bammi Dadar adds beauty to the national park. This place is also known as sunset point. The area of the national park is approximately 940 square kms and is home to the largest populations of the tigers in the country.

The park also shelters leopard, and striped hyena, spotted deer, sloth bear, wild boar, jungle cat, jackal and a variety of monkeys. Apart from the big cat (Tiger), the main attraction of the park is Hard ground Barasingha (Swamp Deer) which is one of the rarest deer in world and is often referred to as Jewel of Kanha national park.

The park was established in 1955 and was selected for “Project Tiger” in 1974 and is considered as the earliest protected area.in the country. The forests of Kanha mainly of sal and bamboo forests are the most interesting features of the area.

Kawardha Palace is another attraction in side the Kanha National Park. It was built by Maharaja Dharamraj Singh in the period 1936-39. The unique design of the palace constructed with Italian marble and stone, offers magnificent sight to the visitors.

Boasting of about 22 species of mammals, Kanha inhibits

Kanha boasts of about 22 species of mammals. Some of the inhabitants of this park are the gaur, the largest of the world's cattle; the sambar, the largest Indian deer; and the chausingha, the only four-horned antelope in the world. Other frequent visitors include the Nilgai antelope, the sloth bear, the dhole, or Indian wild dog, and an occasional panther. List of mammals one can spot at kanha national park are Rhesus Macaque, Wolf, Sloth Bear, Small Indian Civet, Striped Hyaena, Tiger, panthers, Gaur, Sambar, Indian Muntjac, Indian Palm Squirrel, Bengal Fox, Indian Hare, Four-horned Antelope, Smooth-coated Otter, Indian Grey Mongoose, Jungle Cat, Indian Spotted Chevrotain, Indian Porcupine, Golden Jackal, Dhole, Leopard, Wild Boar, Swamp Deer

Kanha National ParkOne can also find more than 175 varieties of birds in Kanha National Park. Some of the major rare bird species in Kanha are Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea,Paddy Bird or Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii), Shikra (Accipiter badius),White-eyed Buzzard (Butastur teesa).
